GUIDANCE and training of local artists to improve their talents are very important, says Fiji-born and Mumbai-based singer Sumeet Tappoo.
He said he would like see a base from where local performing artists are able to perfect their talents and skills.
The 30-year-old has been based in Mumbai for the last five years and has broken into the Bollywood music scene, having sang in two recent movies. The songs are being played on the airwaves in Fiji
Mr Tappoo, who is based in Mumbai, was in the country on an eight-day bhajan (devotional songs) concert.
He said it was his desire to carry out a temple concert tour.
"There is a lot of talent in the country but there is not much guidance given to them to pursue their careers in singing or performing," he said.
"The eight-day back-to-back bhajan concert was an awesome one. It's been a wonderful tour because the response from the community has been mind blowing. The concerts have been jam packed. The response has been very positive. People have been asking for repeat concerts."
Mr Tappoo said while he had been accompanied by overseas musicians from Mumbai, Australia and New Zealand he also included three local back-up singers.
"I believe we need to give our locals a chance to show their talent and that they be exposed to international standards as well."
